How do you know what my child's needs are?
Before enrollment of a student in the "Road" Scholar program, your child's specific needs are identified through a skills assessment process. This exercise involves the use of standardized tests and diagnostic tools that give us a detailed profile of your child's academic strengths and weaknesses.
How much does it cost?
Compared to big name learning centers, you will find us most reasonable. We do not lock anyone into long extended contracts. As with other learning centers, we bill in advance for services. Before registering, please be certain your child will be able to attend their regularly scheduled sessions. Please note: there are no refunds or credits for missed sessions.
LEARNING CENTER: Our small group sessions are one hour and run $30.00 (required two sessions per week) If you are wanting your child to take two different subjects, cost is $30 for the first hour and $20.00 for the second hour. We use our own materials and teach students the skills that they have not mastered in previous years at school.
MATH TUTORING : Math tutoring is primarily for older students (middle, high school, college) that are in need of some help. Students are required to bring their own textbooks they are using from school. These sessions are usually private and cost $35.00 an hour. It is assumed that students are at grade level and just need a little help in specific areas.
What methodology do you use?
We utilize the, "Direct Instruction" approach to designing our curriculum. D.I. is a proven method that yields great success for students who struggle with the more, "traditional" approach to teaching academics.
What grades do you tutor?
Our tutoring programs generally target children in grades K through 12th. However, our enrollment criteria is more focused on our students' level of skill or specific need.
What about the "No Child Left Behind Act"?
Whatever your opinion may be of the federal law requiring standardized testing, the tests have revealed some real needs in the public schools. These findings have led to recently issued mandates aimed at addressing the academic needs of students who have fallen behind or, "though the cracks". Our program targets those students with curriculum designed to help them catch up with their peers.
My child's school has scheduled an I.E.P. meeting. Now what?
We can help you understand the process, your child's rights, and how to best insure a positive outcome. We also provide support and advocate for your student in the school meeting.
Will I be kept informed of my child's progress?
Periodic testing is done to let us know by objective assessments, the progress of each student. The results of these evaluations are made available to you via written reports and scheduled consultations. At the end of each session, a report of services will be e-mailed directly to you.
Are there enrollment requirements?
Typically, students enrolled in our learning center begin with a 12 week commitment. There are two, one hour sessions each week. After the initial 12 weeks, students may continue as needed on a month to month basis. You may cancel after the initial three month period by submitting a two week notice. We also require an assessment before students can be placed at the appropriate level.
We ask that you also consider your child's schedule before making an academic commitment. Many students are involved in after school activities that often conflict with tutoring session times. Because of our limited time, space, and staff, we are unable to accomodate the learning center's time frame to accomodate individual student's after school commitments.
